Abstract
Title: Deep Shear Wave Velocity Measurements in the Las Vegas Basin (NEES-2009-0672)
Year Of Curation: 2011
Description: UNLVa??s Applied Geophysics Center (AGC) had a Small Grant for Exploratory Research from the National Science Foundation to use the NEES@UTexas Liquidator vibroseis for seismic surface wave measurements in the Las Vegas and Pahrump Valleys, Nevada. Testing was conducted over the period November 4-15, 2008. The purpose of this study is to determine subsurface shear-wave velocity (Vs) profiles. The Spectral-Analysis-of-Surface-Waves (SASW) method was used to profile six locations. Two are located in Stewart Valley, Nye County, Nevada. Four locations were tested in the Las Vegas Valley, Clark County. For the six locations tested, six Vs profiles will be evaluated. The Vs profiles will be correlated with related, previous studies. This project is complementary to the AGCa??s ongoing Earthquakes in Southern Nevada project.
