Abstract

Title: Shake Table Response of Full Scale Reinforced Concrete Wall Building Slice (NEES-2006-0203)

Year Of Curation: 2013

Description: The test structure is a slice of a 7-story residential building incorporating structural walls as the lateral force-resisting system. The structure was built at full-scale. The test comprised a main 12ft long rectangular wall and two transverse walls that were required to provide lateral and torsional stability during the test program. One of the transverse walls was joined to the rectangular wall in a second phase of testing not described here. Testing was performed at the Englekirk Structural Research Center, where the UCSD-NEES Large High-Performance Outdoor Shake Table operates. The web wall provides lateral a?? force resistance in the E-W direction of loading, while the two transverse walls provide transverse and torsional resistance to the test structure. The total height of the specimen is 63 ft and the total weight 550 kips. A 12 ft by 26 ft-8 in. slab simple supported on gravity columns were present at every level. The width of the web wall was 8 in. at the first and seventh levels and was reduced to 6 in. elsewhere. Both the web and the flange wall were cast into footings that were prestressed to the shake table moving platen. Pin-pin connections capable of transferring in-plane diaphragms forces were placed between the web wall and the two transverse walls. An elevation as well as a foundation and floor plan view of the system are shown in Figure 2. For the gravity columns high strength steel pin-pin rods grouted in 4 in. pipes were used.
