Sure, in Sydney I would recommend looking at suburbs like Surry Hills, Paddington, and Glebe. They're all centrally located and you can rent here a house with https://rentola.com.au/ and have plenty of amenities like shops, cafes, and restaurants. In Melbourne, suburbs like Fitzroy, Carlton, and Brunswick are popular with young professionals and have a great arts and culture scene.
