Must-Know Mental Health Tips for University Students
Depression, anxiety, and panic attacks are no stranger to university students. Mental health is often looked down by the people who don’t treat mental illnesses seriously or are not educated regarding it.
As a university student, you must feel lonely, sad and upset at times for no reason and that’s okay. You’re a whole person made to react to things and feel things as well but it shouldn’t get the best of you.
Here are a few tips for you to stay sane in the University.
1.Know Your Worth
You should know that you’re the king/queen of your life. Pushing yourself hard to achieve your goals is good but degrading yourself won’t help you at all. It is recommended to everyone and especially students to treat themselves with kindness and avoid self-criticism. You have to be kind to yourself because if you’re not, then who will be?
2.Physical Health is Important too!
When it comes to mental health, physical health plays a huge role as well. For instance, eating unhealthy food regularly can have a negative effect on your mental health as well. You might gain weight, get skin problems like acne & scars, or just get sick.
While eating healthy food every day make sure to practice following as well:
- Eat fruits.
- Avoid cigarettes and other types of tobacco/nicotine
- Drink a lot of water
- Exercise, jog, run, do squats, or maybe get some weights to exercise within your room.
If you keep such things in practice, you will stay physically healthy and stay in a good mood most of the time.
3.Get the Beauty Sleep
Having a 12-hour sleep schedule might seem impossible and it could be hard to keep it consistent. That is why we suggest you start small. First figure out your schedule, i.e. the time you leave your room and the time you get back there. Once you have it figured out, turn off your Wi-Fi and dim the lights. Sleep soundly till your classes and you’re good to go.
Another thing ignored by a lot of students is that they’d just sleep in whatever they’re wearing. It is a fact that sleeping in comfy clothes and having a pleasant scent can help you have a better quality sleep. A good sleep always mean good mood so you know what to do now,
4.Hangout with the Right People
The chances of your self-esteem getting low when you hang around wrong people get very high. You should avoid arrogant people who radiate a sort of negative vibe. You should surround yourself with people with good morals and plans. Other than that, stay in touch with your friends and family in your free time.
Spending quality time can elevate your mood and help you focus on studies. Other than that, hanging out with ambitious and motivated people can motivate to study better in a positive way as well.
A peaceful mind performs better in every aspect of life. You can wake up a few hours early in the morning and meditate before leaving for class. For instance, you can sit in direct sunlight, feel the breeze, with mellow music. Other than that, you can perform relaxation exercises and prayers for the peace of mind and soul.
Meditating or doing yoga might not work for you immediately unless if you keep it consistent. Do it every once in a while and you’ll feel the fullness in yourself.
6. Help Others and Get Help as Well
You could be great at studies but not all the days are the same neither all the assignments. So if you ever felt like something is taking is a lot more of your time then you should take some help. On the other hand, if you’re skilled at something like creative writing and one of your friends is looking for a Creative Content Writer then you should help.
Helping others can make you feel content within yourself. But keep in mind, over-helping others will just give you stress. If you’re too good at something, start charging a little bit for it. It will keep you busy in your free time and help you save a little for your hobbies as well.
We gave you a few of the best tips that can help you stay elevated. You can’t imply all of them in an instant because everything takes time. You have to stay consistent and patient, it will take a little while but you’ll slowly get there. On the other hand, you can’t stay happy and lifted all the time. The trick to get through rainy days is to let it all out. Holding it back won’t help you, if you feel like crying, cry!
