Abstract

Title: Experiments to Study the Earthquake Response of Reinforced Concrete Frames with Setbacks (NEES-2011-1068)

Year Of Curation: 2012

Description: Traditionally, building codes for earthquake-resistant design in the United States have separated buildings into two classes with respect to the distribution of mass, stiffness, and strength over the height of the structure. Buildings which do not have a reasonably uniform distribution of these attributes have been classified as being irregular. While simplified design procedures, such as the Equivalent Lateral Force method, may be used for regular buildings, special design procedures, such as linear dynamic analysis, are required for irregular buildings.
